    What is your return policy?

Guarantee and return policy.  Please verify the correct parts for your engine/equipment before submitting your order.

Why are there so many choices for a part for a Honda engine or Honda power eqipment?

Honda makes many variations of their engines and equipments.  Some of the major differences between the engine and equipment variations are the crankshafts, air cleaners, carburetors, camshafts, mufflers, starters, and governor controls. Many of these parts do not interchange.  For example, there are over 100 variations of the GX390 engines and over 10 different carburetors used.  To determine the correct parts, all the engine or equipment numbers should be obtained.

    I can't find the part I need.

We sell all Honda and Kohler small engine parts.  Parts are added and updated on a regular basis.  If your parts is not listed yet, please contact us for pricing.

Where can I get owners and parts manuals?

Manuals can be obtained by following the links on this page.

Where can I get Honda service manuals?

You can order the Honda parts and service manuals by visiting www.helminc.com.

I have a Honda imitation engine, will the Honda parts work?

While most parts can be replaced with Honda parts, it may be a little difficult to determine the correct parts.  Honda makes over 100's of  variations of their engines. Some of the major differences between the engines are the crankshafts, air cleaners, carburetors, camshafts, mufflers, starters, and governor controls.

The Honda genuine engines will have a designation stamped on their engines that will indicate the variation.  The  imitation engines do not have this designation and make it hard to determine which specific variation of the Honda engine your engine is modeled after.  Ordering parts may be a hit and miss.

Where can I get shear bolts for my snowblower/snowthrower?

You can obtain inexpensive shear bolts for snowblowers/snowthrowers from your local hardware store.  Just ask for "gummy bolts".  These are threaded all the way through, made of very soft metal, and have no markings.

Where are the Honda numbers located?

    Honda number locations.

Which Honda engine version do I have?

Besides the many different variations of a Honda engine, there are also different versions, depending on when and where the engine was made.  This is also a factor in determining the correct part for your engine.

The versions are denoted by a combination of letters and numbers after the engine model numbers.  Example: GX240, GX240K1, GX240U1 - whereas GX240 is the model number, K1 and U1 would be the version.  The enigne version is not generally denoted anywhere on the engine itself, but can be determined by the engine serial numbers

Which Honda mower version do I have?

Besides the many different variations of a Honda mower, there are also different versions, depending on when and where the mower was made.  This is also a factor in determining the correct part for your mower.

The versions are denoted by a combination of letters and numbers after the mower model numbers.  Example: HRX217, HRX217K1, HRX217K2 - whereas HRX217 is the model number, K1 and K2 would be the version.  This is usually denoted on the mower numbers tag but can also be determined by the mower serial numbers

What do the Honda engine numbers mean?

Honda engines numbers look like GX160K1 AR GCAAH-1000001.  These numbers are all stamped or located on the engine.

The first spot G is for General Purpose Engine, all Honda engines start with this letter.

The next spot X denotes the valve or engine style: X means OHV (commercial use), C means OHC (residential use), D means diesel, S means OHC (residential use), V means vertical, H means horizontal

The next spot is the engine size 160 (rounded) cm3.

The next spot is the engine version K1.  These are the only numbers not denoted on the engine and is determined by when and where the engine was made engine serial numbers.

The next is spot is the variation AR and is the big determination of which parts to use for your engine.  Honda makes many variations of an engine model, depending on what application it is used for and many parts do not interchange.  For example, there are over 100 variations of the GX390 egines and over 10 different carburetors used.

The last set of numbers is the engine serial numbers GCAAH-1000001.

What do the Honda mower numbers mean?

Honda mower numbers look like HRR216K3VXA MZCG-7200001.  These numbers are all located on a tag, on the mower deck.

The first spot HR is for Honda Rotary Mower, all Honda mowers start with these letters.

The next spot R denotes the material or mower type: A means steel deck, B means bagging and mulching mower, C means commercial mower, M means mulching mower, R means rear discharge, S means side discharge, T means side and rear discharge, if it is blank it means aluminum or polymer deck, X means Versamow mower, Z means Zero Turn Caster mower.

The next spot is the cutting width 21 (inches).  For commercial mowers 70 means mid-sized hydrostatic drive and 71 means mid-sized gear drive.

    The next spot 6 is the engine horsepower: 3 = 2.2 hp, 4 = 4 hp, 5 = 4.5 or 5 hp, 6 = 5.5 hp, 7 = 6.5 hp, 13 = 13 hp, 18 = 18 hp, 20 = 20 hp.

The next spot K3 is the mower version

    The next spot V denotes the drive system: H = hydrostatic drive, S = gear drive, S3 = 3-speed, P = push, T = 3-speed or gear drive, V = variable (Smart Drive), Z =  hydrostatic drive.

The next spot X is the starter system: K = auto choke, M = electric, X = recoil, D = recoil start with zone start, V = zone start with side discharge (HRS21 only).

The last spot A denotes the market.  A is for the USA market, all mowers sold in the USA should end with A.

The last set of numbers is the mower serial numbers MZCG-720000.

What do the Honda generator numbers mean?

Honda generator numbers look like EM5000SXK2 A EANC-1000001.  These numbers are all located on a tag, on the generator frame.

Should I buy a Honda imitation engine?

The companies that produce the imitation engines do not provide parts manuals or service manuals that we are aware of.  Instead, they want you to use Honda's manuals.  They also want you to contact an Authorized Honda Dealer for parts, service, and dealer support, as they do not provide it (that we are aware of).  This is one of the reasons these engines are about 1/2 the price of genuine Honda engines.

While most parts can be replaced with genuine Honda parts, it may be a little difficult to determine the correct parts.  Honda makes over 100 variations of their engines. Some of the major differences between these engines are the crankshafts, air cleaners, carburetors, camshafts, mufflers, starters, and governor controls.  The Honda genuine engines will have a designation on their engines that will indicate the variation.  The imitation engines do not have this designation and make it hard to determine which specific variation of the Honda engine it is modeled after.  Ordering parts may be a hit and miss.

Honda has strict specifications on how their engines are built and they have quality control to regulate this.  On the other hand, we do not know if these imitation companies have such standards of procedures in place.  It is not uncommon to have a Honda Genuine Engine still running after 15+  years, but to have an imitation engine fail within the first few hours of operation.

What is wrong with my engine?

Our engine troubleshooting guide is a good place to start.

Can I convert my recoil starter to make it electric or add an electric starter?

Honda does not offer an electric start conversion kit.  You would need to add an electric starter, change out your fan and flywheel, and replace the ignition parts. We do not recommend this, neither does Honda.  For the costs of the parts needed and labor involved, purchasing a new engine is a much better alternative.

How do I wire the oil switch?

If the oil switch has two wires; one is ground and the other goes to the oil alert unit.  If it only has one wire, then it goes to the oil alert unit (it's grounded by mounting to the casing).

How do I wire the oil alert unit?

The black wire goes to the ignition and the yellow goes to the oil switch.

When should I set my mower to mulch?

Mulching should be done when there is less moisture on the grass, typically after May.  Otherwise the mulched grass will clump up and plug up your mower.  The wet grass will also put more nitrogen back into your lawn, making it grow faster, which means you'll have to mow more frequently.

    Storing my engine/equipment.

If you won't be running your engine/equipment for a while (3 months or more), make sure you store it away correctly to prevent gumming up of the carburetor.  Empty or run the gas out before storing.  You can also just add fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank before storing.
